Kūmara = sweet potato from Hawaiki to Aotearoa
 
Inspired by our tīpuna/ancestors like Whakaotirangi who brought the kūmara from Hawaiki and changed the flavour game in Aotearoa! A tohu/symbol of how deep our whakapapa is with the whenua/land. 
 
It's also an ode to the whakataukī “Kāore te kūmara e kōrero mō tōna ake reka” - The kūmara does not brag about its own sweetness
 
This whakataukī can be interpreted in many ways:
- as a reminder to be humble and practise humility
- as a sign of manaakitanga and thinking of others
- as a reminder that there is strength in humility
 
Kūmara is printed on the back as a reminder to yourself to remain humble, and a reminder to others to talk of your sweetness/positive attributes, because we should always build each other up!
